Wine & water glasses

Did you know that until the 18th century, glasses did not appear on the table? At their request, the guests are served and the servant then brings back the glass, which can also be reused by another guest.

The water glass sometimes looks like a goblet, and is then placed on the side, and it is with this one that we like to play with!
It has spirit, it adds color and refinement.

The glass service will be invented in the 19th century, where several glasses of the same model but of decreasing size will be placed in front of each guest, serving in turn water, white wine, red wine, then wine from Rhine (often colored), port, sherry, etc. Today, they are arranged in 3s, usually in a triangle or diagonally behind the plate.

The huge tasting glasses deserve a special mention. They are typical of Burgundy wines, and they enhance the fragrance of white wines or the bouquet of red wines, and are merciless for medium wines. All tasting glasses, so dear to modern oenology, have a foot to prevent the beverage from being warmed by the hand, a fairly long leg also allowing the wine to be swirled in its glass; to allow this aeration without overflowing, you will only fill your glass to a third. The parison of the glass, i.e. the container, must be transparent and as thin as possible.
