Cutlery manufacturing

Thiers is, for several centuries, the largest French cutlery production center.

The origin of its specialization dates back to the Middle Ages: according to a legend, the Auvergnat crusaders, during the first crusade, reportedly brought from the East the secret of manufacture; in fact, the metallurgy of Thiers dates back to the 14th century. The development of cutlery allows the city to export its products, from the 16th century, in Spain, the Netherlands and Lombardy. Blades of all kinds are ironed on the wheels powered by the hydraulic energy of the Durolle River.

The manufacture of SIÈCLE cutlery uses several techniques. Cutlery is generally constructed in three parts, the cutlery head, the handle and the ferrule, a small ring that binds one to the other. One-piece cutlery is made by stamping or casting.

Then the different parts are assembled together, in an ultra meticulous way because our spare parts entirely made by hand all vary very slightly from one part to another, this is what recalls the expression a work of goldsmith for everything lined up nicely.

The singularity of SIÈCLE is partly based on the work of creating the ferrules, this small ring originally intended to prevent the wood of the handles from splitting.

These ferrules are most often made with the technique of lost wax casting. SIÈCLE also sometimes uses old models of stamped ferrules. We are also known for our range of handles in precious and noble materials.

Some models of cutlery such as the "1927", are made by molding a single piece, cast brass.

Each of the SIÈCLE Paris cutlery is entirely assembled by hand, from elements also shaped by hand. The thickness of the silvering allows the Square Punch, Quality I. The sharpened blades are forged by hand and signed by our brand.

CARE

Pack the silverware you do not use every day in tissue parts. This will protect it from bumps and scratches and prevent it from yellowing too fast. The silver plated cutlery and sterling silver support the washing machine, but for those in silver plated, you absolutely avoid detergent products in tablet form, as well as contact with any steel element that cause their desilvering by electrolysis, while the wash. Never store your cutlery with rubber links (elastic) that damage the silver immediately.
